Preschool Details: Committee for Early Childhood Development unites families, staff and community organizations together to support the growth and development of preschool children. C.E.C.D. combines high quality education, parent involvement and strong community linkages to ensure family preservation and diversity, while opening a pathway to a bright and successful future for families. All sites offer free Head Start services. C.E.C.D. is a comprehensive child development program. It is a child-focused program, and has the overall goal of increasing the social competence of young children. By “social competence” is meant the child’s everyday effectiveness in dealing with both his or her present environment and later responsibilities in school and life. Social competence takes into account the interrelatedness of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. C.E.C.D. is also family-centered, following the tenets that children develop in the context of their family and culture and that parents are respected as the primary educators and nurturers of their children. To that end, C.E.C.D. has an “Open-Door Policy,” which allows families to visit the center and request information at any time. C.E.C.D. offers family members opportunities and support for growth and change, believing that people can identify their own strengths, needs, and interests and are capable of finding solutions.
Age Requirements: 3 to 5 years old
